Rohnert Park Brake Service - Repair at Tristar Automotive
Brake Service & Repair in Rohnert park is readily available at Tristar Automotive. Your car's braking system requires routine maintenance and should not be neglected - a life could depend upon it - maybe your own. Forces applied by the brake shoes against the brake drum generate substantial amounts of heat while applying frictional forces to the brake drums in order to bring your vehicle to a safe stop. Friction and heat wear out parts, meaning your car may not stop as quickly as it should - especially under a panic stop scenario. If you reside in Rohnert Park, then you are already aware of how traffic on the city's streets has increased dramatically over the passed decade and you really need to be on your toes to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you while operating your vehicle.
Don't procrastinate a moment longer! Bring your automotive brake service & repair work to the ASE Certified professionals at Tristar Automotive. Our ASE Certified technicians stand-ready to accomplish tasks from a routine Brake Inspection and Brake System Flush or diagnosing issues with a complex ABS Brake System to a complete overhaul of your brake system if necessary. Automotive Drum Brakes - Shoes & Drum Setup
The illustration to the right depicts the basic drum brake system. This particular setup has a leading and trailing shoe actuated by a single piston.
You will notice a backing plate behind the brake shoes. The backplate generally attaches to a flange fixed near the end of the axle housing. Its purpose is to provide attachement points for the hydraulic cylinder and brake shoe retention springs. The backplate also keeps dirt or debri from entering the brake drum area and making contact with the brake shoes or related parts.
The brake cylinder is actuated when the driver depresses the brake pedal, forcing hydraulic fluid to actuate pistons at opposing ends of the cylinder to push the brake shoes outward and make contact with the drum, consequently slowing wheel rotation. When the driver releases the brake pedal, brake return springs attached to the brake shoes, pull the shoes inward and away from the drum, allowing free rotation to resume.
